I drove down to Barton Springs today and noticed that this year there are much more official “No Event Parking in Neighborhood” signs posted around the Zilker Park neighborhood. Does this mean that you really can’t park there this year? In previous years, there have been orange non-official looking signs — but these looked more serious.
I drove past the sign and barricade and parked in the neighborhood and took the short walk down to Barton Springs — was that wrong? Last year I asked a police officer if I’d be ok parking on the side of one of the residential streets and was told that I would be fine and that it was a public street. I am assuming that is still the case and that the neighborhood is just trying to keep the clutter out.
I used to live on Spillman Street in that neighborhood and never saw anyone being towed or ticketed despite the massive number of cops patrolling on ACL days — I therefore conclude it to be a bluff. No ticket for me today either, btw.
Some news sites are reporting “And whatever you do, don’t park in nearby neighborhoods. If you don’t live there, you could be towed.” They didn’t quote their source, so I’m assuming they are guessing.
If anyone has another link or source on this topic, please share.
ps – if you are walking down Folts, be sure to stop at the gatorade and water stand there to pick up a resfreshment ($1.00) – The young entrepreneur is hoping to save up for a Wii Fit.
I live in Rollingwood and I’m pretty sure we passed some new ordinances regarding parking this year in our city council recently.
