WebMasterRadio.fm recently put up an interview with SES staffer Kevin Ryan in which they implied that rumors were flying that Rand Fishkin, among others, had been banned from future SES events.

In the interview it is clear that Ryan thinks Rand started the rumor himself. Ryan then dismisses the rumor as false. WebMasterRadio.fm will only say “we hear things” over and over and the rumor was heard “at bars and places.” I haven’t seen any posts (notice how non-topical this latest post is) from Rand on this (who I think would certainly be blogging about this if it had any truth to it), and coupled with observations of WebMasterRadio.fm spamming to get their interviews Sphunn — I’m going to call shenanigans on the whole thing and say that this was a PR stunt to draw traffic to WebMasterRadio.fm. It certainly worked on me.

And yes, I also get the irony of posting about it myself with links to WebMasterRadio.fm.

Update: Fred over at Just Fred Works just posted about this and said he personally overheard Rand Fishkin say he was banned from SES. I guess that answers the mystery of whether it was Link Bait, but not the mystery of why he would claim to be banned or why SES would lie about banning him.
